Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: 19 September 2026

Flarewing is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology used to access it. Accessibility isn't treated as an afterthought here - it's part of how this site, and every site we build, gets designed and developed in the first place. Where the two are ever in tension, accessibility takes priority over visual polish.

Why this matters

  • 16% of the global population, an estimated 1.3 billion people, live with a significant disability (WHO)
  • In the UK alone, 25% of the population, an estimated 16.8 million people, have a disability, rising to 45% of adults over State Pension age (DWP Family Resources Survey, 2023/24)
  • 69% of disabled online users have abandoned a website altogether because it was too difficult to use (Click-Away Pound Survey)
  • Accessibility also helps people with temporary or situational impairments (a broken arm, bright sunlight on a phone screen, a slow connection), not only permanent disability

An inaccessible site isn't a small oversight - it's turning away a meaningful share of the people it was built to reach.

Conformance status

This site is designed and built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the widely-used standard for web accessibility. These checks are run using axe, a widely-used automated accessibility testing tool.

What's been done

  • Semantic HTML and proper heading structure, so the page makes sense to screen readers and other assistive technology
  • Full keyboard navigation, with visible focus indicators throughout
  • Colour choices checked against WCAG contrast requirements (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components)
  • Text that resizes and reflows properly when zoomed, rather than breaking the layout
  • Descriptive alt text on meaningful images, and decorative images hidden from assistive technology
  • Forms with proper labels and clear error messaging
  • Testing with screen readers (e.g. VoiceOver, NVDA) and keyboard-only navigation, not just automated scanners

Feedback

If you find something on this site that's difficult to use, or you need information in a different format, get in touch via the Contact page. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 3 business days and to fix genuine barriers as quickly as practical.

Technical specifications

This site's accessibility relies on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript working together, and is designed to work with current versions of major browsers and assistive technology. It isn't guaranteed to work if technologies are disabled or unsupported by your browser/device.

Accessibility in Flarewing's work

This page isn't just about this website. Accessibility is built into every project we deliver for clients, considered from the design stage rather than retrofitted at the end, because for much of the audience we work with, an inaccessible site isn't a minor gap, it's a barrier to the people the organisation exists to serve.
